Make a Powerful Choice

There is more power in the choices I make to live life in line with my values than it does to holler and scream down others for not living life in line with my values.

Let me say that again.

There is more power in the choices I make to live life in line with my values than it does to holler and scream down others for not living life in line with my values.

It's so stressful and sad to see people arguing with the apparent expectation of changing the mind of those around them.  We all have opinions and convictions.  Very few of us would every change those opinions or convictions based on something someone posted on Facebook.  If I thought it were possible, I would probably be more likely to post more things.  However, the changes that happen in someone's opinions almost always come from a life event.  Real people in a real situation that open their mind to what the other side has been saying for a long time, but couldn't be heard over all the rhetoric.  And few of us can cause that life event, but perhaps be around to encourage when that life event does happen.

In the meantime, it is the choices I make on a daily basis that honor what I see as valuable and worthy that are the most powerful tool I have.  Far more powerful than a goofy meme about some topic I take issue with.

Whether you are talking about race, masks, religion, gender, education, or a host of other hot topics, let me tell you what I see.  I see some extreme issues and areas highlighted on social media.  Real places with real issues.  Real tragedies, real bias, real problems.  When you get off of social media, you see a much larger mix of reality.  Some extremes, some the exact opposite.  Like a family of 5 will have 5 very different experiences and circumstances, we are a country full of variety.  Variety in bias, experience, and circumstance.  No matter what cause or high and mighty opinion you feel strongly about marching around with on social media, I guarantee you there is variety real life examples that would disagree with your opinion.  Does that make you wrong?  Maybe.  Maybe not.  Arguing about it the way many are doing right now isn't going to improve things very easily.  Living a strong life with grace and understanding that models those opinions and ideals is far more powerful.
