1st Grade Year Curriculum: A Homeschool Easy Review

Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review.  I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.

True homeschooling's most significant gift is it's flexibility.  As some of our public school friends are thrust into a distance learning situation, we know that options aren't always abounding in those circumstances.  One of the biggest reasons homeschooling is a viable choice in our modern world is because of choices, choices and more choices! Sometimes students and educators need an easy, straightforward approach.  Our review today is just that, easy and straightforward. We're talking about the 1st Grade Entire School Year Curriculum from Homeschool Easy.

What We Received:

We received a digital copy of  1st Grade Entire School Year Curriculum where the files are divided into subjects and then into months or weeks.  Subjects included are Book Reading, Grammar, History, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing.  Answers are provided for most worksheets.

How It Works:

In the How to Use Homeschool Easy PDF, parents are advised to print out all worksheets for the given week and allow students to work at their own pace.  For Reading, the program provides access to free online books through a username and password provided and then do worksheets that correlate with that book.  It is recommended to read one online book a day.  History and Science usually consists of a book or video the student watches followed by a corresponding worksheet or project.  Math consists of worksheets only, but in the answer key there are recommended video links if guidance is needed.  Reading includes weekly words flash cards, fill-in-the-blanks, and crossword puzzle activities  Writing consists of a variety of writing prompts that ask a question or ask the student to describe something.
Since my 7 year old daughter was basically all ready for 2nd grade, we spent time in the last few weeks of this 1st grade curriculum and took advantage of some of the fun videos and worksheets.

Who Would Benefit From This Program?

Since this is a very easy, straightforward program it can be used in a variety of scenarios.  New homeschoolers, which we have a lot of in the United States right now, could benefit from this all-in-one set up simply because it's not complicated or overwhelming.  Students who are struggling and aren't ready for a lot of work can benefit from this because it hits all the subjects while not requiring extended time on any one.  Educators who like to spend time in the extras a lot (projects, specialty subjects or their preferred fine art) can use this as a basic program and then fill in other things as they choose.  This matches my daughters personality very well because she lives for craft projects and living outdoors!  Having a simple series of activities or worksheets to complete in a given time is her favorite because she makes a beeline for her desired result - to go outside!  The straightforward approach of Homeschool Easy does leave plenty of room for further interest study where a subject is introduced and then the child/parent spends more time exploring it.  Everything is lined out clearly so if the work isn't quite enough you can fill in based on subjects as well.  Providing options is a beautiful thing in homeschooling!
