Experience Biology: A Journey Homeschool Academy Review

I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review.  I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.

I feel a lot of compassion for parents feeling forced into homeschooling right now because impossible choices and limitations.  It shouldn't be this way and I pray homeschooling is a blessing despite it not being ideal for some.  That being said, one of my favorite things about homeschooling is being able to choose what curriculum my children learn from.  It is especially important when it comes to the sciences and how they align with our families Christian worldview.  My review today is Experience Biology: Elementary from  Journey Homeschool Academy where kids gain a greater respect for God's creation and how amazing it is!

What We Received:

We received access to Experience Biology: Elementary, an online course that consists of video lessons, printable worksheets, quizzes, flashcards,  reading list, activity supply list, and a variety of activity sheets.  Some of the lessons included plants, biomes, fungus, cells, etc.

How It Works:

This program is designed to be very flexible while providing plenty of content for students to thoroughly understand and interact with a topic.  It would be easy to do one lesson a week and spread the Biology unit over a semester.  On the other hand, as the videos aren't very long, you could do multiples in a week concentrating heavy on Biology for a shorter period of time.  Either way could work fine.  Each lesson has a main video, a memory video and then extra printable material.  This extra material usually includes suggested reading options, a physical activity or experiment, a quiz, memory verse flashcards and copy work in both print and cursive.  There is no required order of tasks, but watching the lesson video first and then working through the rest afterward is a logical approach.  With extra reading and quizzes, there are a lot of opportunities for questions and discussions, which always leads to great learning moments.

What We Thought:

My kids, 3, 7 and 9, LOVED this program.  They begged to watch multiple videos in one setting.  Sometimes we did that, sometimes we didn't, depending on how much time I needed.  The videos are great quality and very engaging.  They never came away feeling confused or lost.  When we followed up with various activities, the information flowed well.  Obviously, my three year old didn't participate with all the extras and didn't absorb as much as the others, but he did sit for the videos.  With the quizzes, we often did them together orally which led to family discussions.  This benefited everyone, including the 3 year old!  Not only am I super thankful my kids have access to this great program, but I would definitely be interested in trying out some of their other courses and new courses in the future!
