MathArt & Science Course Bundle: A NatureGlo eScience Review

I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review.  I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.

By a show of hands, who gets a little panicked when you think about teaching science?  Just me? Well, if you're like me and science isn't your comfort zone, today's review is a great option to have ready.  We are reviewing NatureGlo's eScience MathArt & Science Course Bundle from NatureGlo eScience that can help you cover some bases that you might not feel confident in.

What We Received:

We received one year access to NatureGlo's eScience MathArt & Science Course Bundle that is designed for ages 10 and up, though in my experience younger siblings can follow along with a lot of the videos pretty well, depending on the subject matter.

How It Works:

Through the MathArt & Science Bundle, we had access to 27 different courses to choose from.  The courses included subjects in Geology, Botany, Zoology, and MathArt with a variety of different ideas touched on.  Gloria Brooks teaches from a neutral worldview, which means it doesn't include religious views, but it shouldn't include religious opposing views either.  The courses vary in lesson length, though several are one lesson in length.  There is sometimes a pre-lesson activity which includes a video and some questions.  The main lesson is an instructional video that features Gloria Brooks and a power point.  In most courses this main lesson is then followed up by additional videos, activities and a study guide.  As many ecourses work, grading is largely on a completion basis, but if needed parents/teachers can impose their own grading standards very easily.  There is no order or designated value in choosing to begin one course over another so a student/educator is free to choose whatever is most suitable to the needs of the moment.  All are accessible all the time so beginning more than one at a time is an option, if necessary.

What We Thought:

Even though my son isn't quite 10 yet, he does well enough that I thought trying out this program with him would turn out fine.  And I was right! Not knowing what to expect, we simply started with the first course in the row,  Exploring The Giant Redwood Trees.  He watched the main video and completed the study guide in one sitting.  On another day, he came back and completed the additional videos.  We would go on to explore other courses like the MathArt series, where Fibonacci numbers are explored. We hadn't talked about that subject since he was much younger so it was really interesting! Since her worldview is non-religious, it certainly made me want to look up some creation-based information, simply because Fibonacci numbers scream God's work to me, but that's a personal preference.  Her neutral perspective does make the courses useful to all kinds of homeschools.

My son enjoyed the various subjects and didn't have any trouble diving into the courses.  Whenever his siblings were around, they would quickly find their way to a chair nearby in order to watch with him.  The work involved wasn't really applicable to my 3 and 7 year old, but they certainly absorbed much of the information.  In a lot of cases, it is easy to include more age appropriate activities that can make it a family affair.  One of the pre-lesson activities was a video about making patterns with a variety of beans.  This is something all ages can engage in and enhance the lesson.

This is a program that is certainly good for older ages, but easily adapted for the whole family.  This bundle has a great variety and all courses do a good job encouraging a desire to learn about nature and the world around us.
